Aston Clinton continued with an unbeaten start to the season but with two contrasting performances in two away games over three days
Aston travelled to Luton on Saturday to play Kent Athletic where they have never lost a league match but started in the worst possible way when from some poor defending they conceded a goal in the first minute, this goal unsettled Aston and it took a long time for them to get into the game, yet on 30 minutes were awarded a penalty when Aaron Usmani was wrestled to the ground by a Kents defender, Carl Clay stepped up to the spot but despite sending the keeper the wrong way, his kick hit the inside of the goal post and rolled along the line and out for a goal kick
The second half saw Aston dominate the game and pushed Kent deep into their own half but a combination of some poor passing and some woefull finishing saw chance after chance go begging, Asto indebted to goalkeeper Eddie Farmer with one outstanding save from a Kent breakaway chance that kept Aston only 1 goal down, an equalising goal had to come and with the home team guilty of some blatent time wasting the goal eventually came from Blayne Cahill who from one of Aston's numerous corners turned inside the packed box and drilled home into the far corner in the 94th minute
The contrast with the Kent's game and the Tuesday night game was completely different, with a slightly changed line up, Aston travelled to Ware FC, the shared home of Wodson Park FC, to play Wodson who were a new side into the league last season, Aston losing twice and not scoring against them in 2 matches
This match saw Aston dominate from the off, the harsh words from Aston's management team obviously took effect as Aston completely cotrolled the game going 2-0 up after 28 minutes thanks to Jeremey Robinson who passed the ball into the net from a super James Horwood pass and Blayne Cahill who was set up by Robinson after some slick play right on the goal line. Despite Aston again having to bring on two first half subs, this disruption never unsettled Aston and they went in at half time2-0 up
The second half saw Aston again push Wodson back and Carl Clay scored a glorious third goal on 60 minutes when he beat three defenders inside the box and rolled the ball into the far corner to extend the lead, goal no. 4 saw Danny Bowden lay the ball out wide to James Horwood who's excellent cross was headed home with tremendous power by Aaron Usmani, a great team goal this one, the final goal came when Darren Rebeiro chased Alex Bateman's long ball to beat the last man and score to make it 5-0
Aston then had to defend as Wodson threw on three substitutes to try and salvage something from the game, but with Peter Weirich in superb form controlling aston's defence and Eddie Farmer and Alex Bateman assisting, Aston saw out the remaining minutes to completely outclass the home team, the home team manager complimenting Aston on their performance. Thrre valuable points, a great team performance with some outstanding individual games, most noticably, Pete Weirich and Carl Clay, who have both shown tremendous early season form.
