Aston returned to league action this weekend against 61fc (luton) after their disappointing Anagram cup defeat against Frenford the previous week. Neil Roberts made his return to the club following a short spell at Tring Athletic and replaced the unavailable Steve Powell. 61fc made the better start of the two teams putting Aston under pressure in the early exchanges, Eddie Farmer making a great save from a one-on-one. After a poor first half an hour it was aston who broke the deadlock, afer some slick passing down the left Pete Weirich looped in a cross in which Aaron Usmani beat the onrushing goalkeeper and headed home to make it 1-0. The rest of the half was played out with no real chances, only a half volley from Weirich being the only notable chance. The second half started at a quicker pace with Aston showing some improvement. 61fc had to defend a lot of attacks and made a mistake after a ball was played through to Usmani from Taurean O'Sullivan and the goalkeeper brought the forward down. The referee pointed to the spot and club favourite Roberts stroked the ball into bottom corner. It could have been an even bigger score line when five minutes from time Roberts was put clean through but was wrongly flagged offside. Another 3 points for Aston in their chase for the SML div2 title in this hard fought victory. Cup action this weekend though as they entertain Old Bradwell in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate cup.
