Aston Clinton continued their good form with a fine win over Totternhoe on saturday.
Aston made two changes from the team that beat FC Leisure the previous week both of which were debutants. Kyle Kilmartin signed in the week from Aylesbury Vale came straight in at centre half for Ian Long and Matt Tallyn arriving from Chalfont Wasps replaced the unavailable Gavin Mansi.
Aston started strong in blustery conditions going close on a few occasions through Aaron Usmani and Taurean O'Sullivan both blasting shots over the crossbar. The deadlock was broken eventually after some great passing between O'Sullivan and Jez Robinson led to a ball being played to the byline which was chased by Ben Sullivan who pulled the ball back to Usmani to score from close range. This woke totternhoe up and Aston had to defend a few quick counter attacks with Goalkeeper Eddie Farmer pulling of a great save from a one-on-one. The equaliser came though after a corner was conceded, a short one was played and the ball whipped in and was met by a Totternhoe player who headed the ball in the far corner.
It only took five minutes for aston to regain the lead when a corner was whipped in from Pete Weirich and was met with a powerful header from Kilmartin.
The second half started very quietly with both teams taking time to get back into the game. It was on the hour mark when Aston got the crucial goal, their third of the game. Jez Robinson picked up the ball and after running a short distance across the pitch he fired the ball back across the keeper and into the net from 30 yards. A definate front runner for goal of the season. Usmani rounded off the scoring fifteen minutes later after a nice through ball from Tallyn set him free. This was the forwards 14 t h goal of the season.
Totternhoe pushed on but only had one real chance in the final minute, a shot from forward James McCarthy was pushed onto the post by Farmer to show why he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
A trip to Berk h amsted in a top of the table clash is next for aston in what should be an interesting game for both teams.
